Jiang Huajun Ends Japanese Hopes and Avenges Spanish Defeat

Japanese hopes ended as matters came to a conclusion in the first phase of proceedings at the Volkswagen Women’s World Cup in Singapore on Saturday 29th October 2011, with the defeat of Sayaka Hirano at the hands of Hong Kong’s Jiang Huajun.

Earlier in the day Ai Fukuhara and Kasumi Ishikawa had finished in third place in their respective groups and thus did not qualify for the quarter-finals; soon after Sayaka Hirano joined her compatriots.

She was beaten by Jiang Huajun in six games (6-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-5).....

Kasumi Ishikawa Guides Germany to Quarter-Final Place in Singapore

Japan’s 18 year old Kasumi Ishikawa was the toast of Germany, as matters came to a conclusion in the group stage of proceedings in the Volkswagen Women’s World Cup in Singapore on Saturday 29th October 2011.

On the first day of action she had not enjoyed the best of fortunes; she had been beaten by both Hong Kong’s Tie Yana and by Germany’s Wu Jiaduo; there was only a slight mathematical possibility that she could qualify for the quarter-finals.

She needed to beat Viktoria Pavlovich of Belarus in six games or better and hope that Wu Jiaduo would overcome Tie Yana.....

Prior to the start of proceedings in Singapore, had Japan’s Ai Fukuhara been asked to name the two players she did not want to face in her group stage matches at the Volkswagen Women’s World Cup; no doubt she would have answered Li Xiaoxia and Kim Kyung Ah.

The reason being that Li Xiaoxia is the world’s top ranked player and Kim Kyung is one of the very best defensive players on planet earth; combatting backspin play is not a favourite pastime of Ai Fukuhara.....

Wang Yuegu booked her place in the quarter-finals of the Volkswagen Women’s World Cup, conversely, Li Jia Wei bid farewell.

It was different outcomes for the two Singaporeans on the morning of Saturday 29th October 2011 in the Toa Payoh Sports Stadium but there was one factor in common; both performed magnificently, both a credit to Singapore.

Li Jiawei suffered at the hands of China’s Ding Ning (11-7, 9-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-3, 11-7); after on the adjacent table, Wang Yuegu had overcome Li Jiao of the Netherlands (11-5, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6).....

Success for Feng Tianwei against Japan’s Sayaka Hirano brought the opening day of action, Friday 28th October 2011, to a close at the Volkswagen Women’s World Cup in Singapore.

It was a day that can be considered successful for the host nation’s leading female players.

In the evening session of play, all three Singaporeans gave performances of great credit.

Brimful of confidence after the win over Hong Kong’s Tie Yana in her opening contest in the Volkswagen Women’s World Cup in Singapore on Friday 28th October 2011, Germany’s 34 year old Wu Jiaduo maintained the good form shown in her first encounter, to complete the initial day unbeaten.

Li Xiaoxia and Kim Kyung Ah End First Day in Singapore on High Note

China’s Li Xiaoxia and Korea’s Kim Kyung Ah emerged successful, as matters progressed in first stage matches in Group A of the Volkswagen Women’s World Cup in Singapore, on Friday 28th October 2011.

Li Xiaoxia beat Japan’s Ai Fukuhara in four straight games (11-6, 11-3, 11-5, 11-7); soon after Kim Kyung Ah followed suit. She defeated Spain’s Shen Yanfei in five games (11-6, 11-9, 11-9, 11-13, 11-3).

It was as global status predicted; Li Xiaoxia stands at no.1 on the World Rankings, Ai Fukuhara is at no.8; meanwhile, Kim Kyung Ah occupies the no.16 spot with Shen Yanfei at no.23.....
