Wang Liqin Wins the Bronze Medal - Support from the Swedish King for Persson

China’s Wang Liqin won the bronze medal match against Sweden’s Jörgen Persson with four games to nil. The 30 year old Chinese put his 12 years older opponent constantly under pressure and completed the Chinese dominance.

The hosts won all medals in the Women’s as well as in the Men’s Singles event. Persson suffered the same fate like his compatriot Jan-Ove Waldner four years ago. Persson’s friend was also in the penultimate round but failed to win a medal for Sweden.....

The most successful Olympic table tennis player ever retires. China’s Wang Nan, 29 years old, has won four Olympic gold medals, one silver medal and 15 titles at World Championships. Wang today confirmed what has already been speculated for a long time.

Ma Lin Beats Compatriot Wang Liqin to Reach the Olympic Final

Finally he did it! Ma Lin and Wang Liqin already played 32 times and each of them won 16 times. However, it used to be Wang Liqin, who won the big matches like 2005 and 2007 in the final of the World Championships.
