Jean-Michel Saive, suffered against Wang Liqin in the opening round in Paris

Wang Liqin, the man who has a plethora of titles to his credit but has never won the Men’s World Cup came through his opening in Group A in Paris on Friday 27th October 2006 without any moments for alarm.

In his opening match in the Liebherr Men’s World Cup, he beat Belgium’s Jean-Michel Saive 11-7, 11-6, 11-6, 11-2.

“Wang Liqin is very fit, his game is already terrific”, said Jean-Michel Saive. “It was difficult for me, it’s the first match in the tournament; I feel I should have won one game at least, he won all the points back from the table.”

The comment made by Jean-Michel Saive underlines the strength of Wang Liqin. “At the beginning of the fourth game I was resigned to defeat”, continued Jean-Michel Saive. “I wasn’t able to play in my usual manner as I like to; anyway everything is possible; William Henzell lost against Chen Weixing, I can beat him and challenge Chen Weixing for a qualification place tomorrow.”

Chen Weixing beat William Henzell 11-5, 12-10, 10-12, 11-9, 11-9.
