Organised by former United States Team Member, Samson Dubina and motivated by the ITTF Development Programme, a successful ITTF/PTT Level One Course was held in Akron, Ohio from Monday 28th July to Friday 1st August 2014.

A total of 23 coaches from the Mid-West Region of the United States took part as well as one coach from Canada and one from Hong Kong.

The expert on duty was Richard McAfee from the United States, one of the most experienced and most active ITTF Course Conductors.

Excellent Conditions
“Venue for the course was a local church, The House of the Lord, which featured excellent playing conditions”, explained Richard McAfee. “This was not surprising as one of Ohio’s largest clubs meets regularly in the church’s gym.”

A large club with Richard McAfee once again inspiring potential coaches to advance their skills; undoubtedly he has been very much at the helm of promoting coach education in the United States.

Excellent Conditions
“The ITTF Coaches Development Programme was adopted by USA Table Tennis a little less than four years ago; in this short period of time some 23 ITTF Coaching Courses have been held around the United States”, said Richard McAfee. “ All coaching courses within the USATT are fully self-funded; it is a testament to the quality of the ITTF Development Programme that so many coaches are willing to take time away from their work and to pay to attend these courses.”

Milestone Ahead
Rapid progress and an important date in the programme is on the horizon.

“The USATT will celebrate another milestone in October 2014, when the first ITTF Level Three Course in North America will be held at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs”, added Richard McAfee, who is certainly striving to continue the good work and grateful for the support received in Akron.

“A special “thank you” must be given to Samson Dubina and Pastor Jimmy Taylor for their excellent work in organizing and supporting this event”, he concluded.

Also a special thanks to Richard McAfee for his efforts; surely he must be approaching the top of the rankings in terms of courses administered?
