On the early evening of the fourth day in Otocec, Thursday 12th June, at the ITTF World Hopes Week and Challenge, immediately after the last training session ended, local organizers conducted the draw in the nearby Hotel Sport.

The Challenge commences tomorrow at 9.30am local time with group matches in the Team Event.

Players from Switzerland left early because they have an important competition back home over the weekend, which means that 47 players will vie for the victory.

In the Team Events there are 23 teams. First seeds are Amy Wang and Michael Tran from USA, with Sweden’s Moa Arvidsson and Martin Friis seeded second. Martin Friis really impressed the coaches during the Training Camp and also won both test tournaments, where ITTF World Hopes played games from 8-8 onwards.

Special System for Team Competition
Tomorrow’s Team competition will see players fight under a special system.

They will play three matches; first Girls’ Singles, followed by Boys’ Singles and Mixed Doubles. In group stages all three matches have to be played, whilst in the main draw, team that reaches two victories will progress.

It means that there will be no mixed doubles match if a team attains a two-nil lead.

All team matches will be played on Friday. Saturday and Sunday are reserved for Boys’ Singles and Girls’ Singles competitions. Amy Wang and Martin Friis are the top seeds. Amy is already familiar with Otocec, since she represented Team North America at the last year’s ITTF World Cadet Challenge. On that occasion, she was also the youngest player.

First Stage
Group One: USA, Latvia, Malaysia
Group Two: Sweden, Lithuania/Ireland, Colombia/Peru/Panama, Czech Republic
Group Three: Mexico, Jordan/Hong Kong, Australia/New Zealand, Slovenia 1
Group Four: Singapore, Algeria, Austria/Wales, Brazil
