What a huge honour for Priscila Tommy! The Vanuatu National Olympic Committee (VASANOC) has appointed that she will be the flag bearer on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing on Friday, 8th August 2008.

Priscila Tommy was given the invitation by the Tripartite Commission to participate at the Olympic Womenís Singles event.

Tommyís Progress is no Coincidence
Although her ITTF World Ranking position does not yet indicate this, Tommy is a table tennis hope for the whole continent. In 2007 the defensive player was crowned South Pacific Games Champion in the Womenís Singles and Team events.

Priscila Tommy is also a well-known name on the international stage. She was part of the Oceania team of the World Cadet Challenge in 2004 and 2005 and has been practising regularly in China, the origin of Vanuatuís national coach.

It is "the first time VASANOC has a result from a national program that was established, and now we have already got some fruit", Henry Tavoa, CEO of the VASANOC was quoted on the website of Radio Australia speaking about the development programme implemented in 2003.

Will Federer Lead the Way?
At the opening ceremony, Vanuatu will probably follow only a few moments after Switzerland. The middle European country already has a prominent application.

"Maybe I will carry the flag again for Switzerland. I'd be very honoured. The Olympics is a dream for all sportspeople," Switzerlandís tennis hero Roger Federer said to Around the Rings.

The 8th August 2008 is Federerís 27th birthday but maybe an even bigger day of rejoicing for Priscila Tommy.
