Congo Brazzaville Teenager Captures the Limelight on Home Soil

9/20/2007        2007 ITTF WJC Congo Brazzaville Junior Open

Sabine Yako was the player to steal the show in the Girls’ Team event at the Congo Brazzaville Junior Open on Thursday 20th September 2007.

She remained unbeaten to steer Congo Brazzaville `A’ to top spot in Group `A’ ahead of South Africa and Cong Democratic `B’

Meanwhile, in Group `B’ the Singapore duo of Zena Sim and Isabelle Li were imperious; they beat both Congo Brazzaville `B’ and Congo Democratic `A’ without the loss of a single individual game.

First Match
In the opening match involving Congo Brazzaville `A’, Sabine Yako beat both Eveil Mabikana and Muana Lombo in the contest against Congo Democratic `B’; the eventual result was three-one with Sabine Yako teaming with Eveil Mabikana to win the doubles against Tania Mwanza and Cyntia Nazayani.

The one win for the vanquished came from Cyntia Nzayani against Eveil Mabikana.

Good Form Continues
Success in the opening contest the good form of Sabine Yako continued in the second encounter where they faced South Africa. Once again the young lady from Congo Brazzaville remained unbeaten. She overcame both Alisha Van Rooyen and Stephany Martin, whilst combining with Eveil Mabikana to win the doubles against Stephany Martin and Khanyisilie Madlala.

The final result was a three-one success with the South African win coming from Stephany Martin against Eveil Mabikana.

Second Place
South Africa finished as runners up beating Congo Democratic `B’ to qualify for the second stage.

Singapore Supreme
A fine performance by Sabine Yako and there were also fine performances from Singapore’s Isabelle Li and Zena Sim.

They beat Congo Brazaaville `B’ represented by Nejdanova Bokocku Ntsondo and Jolie Mafuta Ivoso by three matches to nil and repeated the score line against the Congo Democratic `A’ team of Kamangu Maeva, Amma Litobaka and Mongondia Dacha.

Semi-Final Stage
Congo Democratic `A’ finished in second place overcoming Congo Brazzaville `B’ to progress to the semi-finals.
