4/26/2007        LIEBHERR Chile Open

The successful players at the Liebherr Brazilian Open and the Liebherr Chile Open all make progress on the latest ITTF Pro Tour Standings, as the race for a place in the prestigious end of year Volkswagen Pro Tour Grand Finals, to be staged in Beijing from 13th to 16th December 2007, becomes increasingly intense.

Japan’s Kan Yo, the winner in both Belo Horizonte and Santiago, moves into fifth spot on the Men’ Singles Standings, whilst Hong Kong’s Tie Yana, the champion in Brazil, is also in fifth place; colleague Jiang Huajun who succeeded in Chile, one place higher.

Runers Up Progress
Meanwhile in the Men’s Singles Standings the runners in both Brazil and Chile make progress. Tang Peng, the silver medallists at the Liebherr Chile Open is in fourteenth spot with Gao Ning the runner up at the Liebherr Brazilian Open, twelfth.

In the Women’s Singles Standings it is a similar situation. Japan’s Sayaka Hirano the runner up in Santiago, now stands in eighth place with her compatriot Ai Fukuhara, the beaten finalist in Belo Horizonte in tenth spot. Also for Singapore’s Sun Bei Bei there is progress, a Women’s Singles semi-finalist in both Brazil and Chile, she is in ninth place.

No Change
The top three places in the Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles Standings remain unaffected; the Chinese trio of Ma Lin, Ma Long and Wang Liqin occupy the top three spots on the male list whilst on the female list it is the same situation with Guo Yue, Wang Nan and Li Xiaoxia heading the field.

Women’s Doubles
However, in the Women’s Doubles Standings it is a different situation.

Hong’s Tie Yana and Zhang Rui, as a result of their victories at both the Liebherr Braziian Open and the Liebherr Chile Open, move into the number one position with colleague Jiang Huajun and Lin Ling, the runners up in Chile in seventh place. The Japanese duo of Hiroko Fujii and Saki Kanazawa, the silver medallists in Brazil, are in ninth spot.

Men’s Doubles
On the Men’s Doubles Standings Korea’s Ch Eon Rae and Lee Jung Woo retain top place but for those who succeeded in South America there is progress.

Singapore’s Gao Ning and Yang Zi, the runners up in both Brazil and Chile occupy eighth place whilst Hong Kong’s Ko Lai Chak and Li Ching are sixth with Korea’s Cho Eon Rae and Ko Jae Bok twelfth. Ko Lai Chak and Li Ching won in Santiago whilst Cho Eon Rae and Ko Jae Bok succeeded in Belo Horizonte.

Under 21 Men’s Singles
Cho Eon Rae also features prominently in the Under 21 Men’s Singles Standings.

Despite a semi-final defeat at the hands of Portugal’s Tiago Apolónia in Brazil and a reverse in the final in Chile, he remains in the number position. Tiago Apolónia moves into the second spot with Kenta Matsudaira fifth and Portugal’s, Marcos Freitas, the runner up in Brazil, seventh.

Yu Meng Yu Leads
Progress for Tiago Apolónia and Kenta Matsudaira, whilst for Singapore’s Yu Meng Yu, she occupies the number one position on the Under 21 Women’s Singles Standings as a result of her victory in Santiago.

Korea’s Jee Min Hyung, the player she beat in the final in Santiago is ninth with Spain’s Galia Dvorak, who won in Brazil and Hong Kong’s Yu Kwok See, the runner up, in third and ninth places respectively.
