London Olympian Takes Break from Training to Lend a Willing Hand

Eyes set firmly on competing in the London Olympic Games and a preparation programme in place; nevertheless Portugal’s Lei Huang Mendes recently took time from her busy schedule to lend a helping hand.

The 29 year old visited the local Table Tennis Academy in Setubal, “TTPOR ATEMA”, in order to assist Abilio Cruz conduct an ITTF/PTT Level One Course held from Wednesday 4th to Sunday 8th July 2012.

Organised under the auspices of the ITTF Development Programme, the course was the second of its kind in recent months.

A similar course had been staged, again under the direction of the host nation’s Abilio Cruz from Monday 25th to Saturday 30th June.

Outstanding Atmosphere
“Just like on the first course there was tremendous atmosphere”, enthused Abilio Cruz. “Camaraderie, everybody friends and working together; a great spirit.”

Attendance
A total of 23 students attended the course, which in addition to the local Portuguese, included two Spaniards, a Brazilian and a representative from the southern African country of Angola.

One of the reasons for Angola taking an interest in proceedings was that the country is Portuguese speaking.

Female Presence
Furthermore, six members of the course were women with; all eager not only to learn but to meet Lei Huang Mendes.

“Also, the weather was very good and the facilities to accommodate those who came from abroad were first class”, added Abilio Cruz. “It was a superb course, enjoyed by all, top class.”

Linguist
A successful course with the ability of Abilio Cruz to speak fluently in Spanish, as well of course his native Portuguese, being of paramount to the success of the programme.

Everybody enjoyed the course and the most pleased person at the conclusion of proceedings; Abilio Cruz, the itinerary had been delivered successfully, the goals had been achieved.
