Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 29 June 2003. Young CHUAN Chih-Yuan (TPE) got his first Pro Tour title at the Brazilian Open – young Swede Jens Lundqvist will have to wait.
The spectators watching the Men’s Singles final would probably have liked to give a title to both players. CHUAN and LUNDQVIST gave the audience an excellent match with lots of good table tennis and tension to the very last point.

Umemura lost her title |

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 29 June 2003. Aya UMEMURA (JPN) couldn’t take her third Brazilian title in a row. She won the Brazilian Open Women’s Singles in 2001 and 2002, but in a thrilling Women’s Singles final on Sunday she lost to TIE Yana (HKG).
Earlier in the tournament UMEMURA overcame the best ranked Hong Kong player LIN Ling, but the Japanese could not resist the fast blocking game from the Hong Kong no. 2.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 29 June 2003. The Men’s Doubles final between the two pairs from Hong Kong will not be a final to remember. The four Hong Kong players know each other too well, and the match never developed into really exiting rallies.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 29 June 2003. The Brazilian Table Tennis Federation had prepared a special celebration of the Austrian World Champion, Werner SCHLAGER on Saturday at the restaurant Sagrada Mistura in Rio.
The President of the Brazilian Federation, Alaor Gaspar Pinto de AZEVEDO made a very emotional speech thanking the World Champion for visiting Brazil once more.
