Succes for unseeded Bayreuth,
Germany, 21 October 2001.
The final in men’s doubles was a matter between two unseeded pairs -
Slobodan GRUJIC and Aleksandar KARAKASEVIC (YUG) took the title
beating Lucjan BLASZCZYK and Tomasz KRZESZEWSKI at the final hurdle. “We were strong mentally after the semi-final and
in good shape, we played well and beat a very good pair”, extolled an
emotionally exhausted GRUJIC. Nobody can say
the title came easy. The two pairs in the final had ousted pairs
like SCHLAGER/JINDRAK (AUT), SAMSONOV/MA Wenge (BLR,CHN) and HEISTER/KEEN
(NED) on their way to the fight for the title. With the victory GRUJIC/KARAKASEVIC
are advancing in the Pro Tour standing and almost certain to qualify for
the Grand Finals in January. |
