First Danes ever in Grand Finals Farum,
Copenhagen, 30 November 2001. Allan BENTSEN/Finn TUGWELL (DEN) on Friday secured
their qualification in the men’s doubles at the Grand Finals in Tianjin,
China, in January. They
are the first Danes ever to be in a Pro Tour final. The Danes needed just
one victory at the Farum Danish Open to earn the necessary points
to stay among the 8 best pairs in the Pro Tour standings and they
beat the Swedes Jens LUNDQVIST/Mattias STEENBERG quite easily 3-0. Now
there is only one place left to fight for in men’s doubles since the
first 6 pairs cannot be reached, and since a pair from host nation China
is in anyway (WANG Liqin/YAN Sen are currently the highest ranked Chinese
pair as nr. 7). Before
Danish Open CHEUNG Yuk/LEUNG Chu Yuan (HKG) were nr. 8 and the draw in
Denmark brought them in a possible quarter final against nr. 9
Danny HEISTER/Trinko KEEN (NED). In
case they both reach the quarter finals the two pairs can have a “direct
confrontation” for the last place in the Grand Finals. |
