The
USA Table Tennis has signed the contract with the ITTF for another Pro
Tour event in 2002 and one more time the US Open will take place in the
Convention Centre in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this year 4-7 July.
US
Open last year was a great success – the professional Pro Tour is played
alongside the traditional national US Open with participation of hundreds
of North American players. They will once more have the opportunity to
watch the best in the World – when they are not at the table themselves.
Last
year they saw surprising results in both men’s and women’s singles. In
men’s singles the Canadian veteran Johnny HUANG reached the final where
he was very close to beating one of the best in the World LIU Guozheng (CHN).
In women’s singles Olga NEMES (GER) ousted the World nr. 2 ZHANG Yining
(CHN).
