RYU Ji Hye/LEE Eun Sil on Sunday
won the Dawei Pro Tour Grand Finals in women’s doubles though they were
not even supposed to be there!
RYU first qualified with KIM Moo
Kyo but when she cancelled the next doubles pair in line was RYU – again
- together with LEE Eun Sil.
In the final they overcame KIM
Hyo Hui/KIM Hyang Mi (PRK) in
the classic encounter between North and South.
The North Koreans have played a
very good tournament as well but in the final they couldn’t resist the
speed and consinstency of the South Koreans.
RYU/LEE won the first two games
but only with 14-12, 14-12. Then the North Koreans came back to 1-2 but
that was the only game they won. RYU/LEE took the match 4-1 and they will
remain in the table tennis history book as the substitutes who won the
title.
