09/01/2002
Peter Jensen, ITTF
Tianjin, China

The Chinese women are dominating the World Ranking and they might also dominate the Pro Tour finals in women’s singles – the draw on Wednesday made it possible for 4 of the 5 Chinese to avoid each other until the semi-finals.

The World Champion WANG Nan will have to beat Tamara BOROS though to reach the semi-finals and already in her first match WANG Nan has a tough challenge facing the North Korean KIM Hyon Hui who won the Qatar Open 2001.

The nr. 1 seeded RYU Ji Hye (KOR) - who on Wednesday received 5000 US Dollars in extra prize money for finishing  nr. 1 on the Pro Tour standings – is facing the defensive Viktoria PAVLOVICH (BLR) in her first match and if she wins she might have to face one of the best Chinese in 2001 the young NIU Jianfeng.

LI Jia (CHN) has to beat An KONISHI (JPn) and then either Jie SCHOPP (GER) or Aya UMEMURA (JPN) to reach the semi-finals.

The only two Chinese who are drawn to meet each other before the semi-final are GUO Yan and BAI Yang. GUO though first have to beat LIU Jia (AUT) and BAI Yang will face the defensive Korean KIM Kyung Ah in her first match.
