Umpire pre match procedure: When all players arrive to table, the umpire begins pre match procedure. Umpire action: Inspect the rackets. Check the legality of rubber on each striking surface and acceptable tolerances within the surface of the blade. If unsure about an unfamiliar brand, consult the latest list of authorized rubbers (available from the Referee or through the ITTF web site). Ask players to make appropriate adjustments (cut overly extended rubber) to conform to acceptable tolerances. If a player objects, consult with the Referee. Consult with the Referee on any major variance that a player cannot or refuses to correct. Consult the ITTF handbook for match officials for more detailed description of umpire pre match procedures.
