- Player Behavior:
Player verbally or physically intimidates or threatens an umpire as a result to a disputed call demanding that the umpire changes the call.
A player that does not agree with an umpire call should not argue with or intimidate the umpire. A player may ask the umpire to explain the reason for a call. Once given - and the reason was a "point of fact" - play must continue. If the reason was a "point of law", the referee may be consulted - whose decision is final - and play must continue.
- Umpire action:
The umpire should not change a call based simply on one player's objection to a call. If the objection is a point of fact (net, edge, illegal service, etc.…) the umpire - if asked - may explain the reason for the call. Following that, play must continue without delay.
-
If the reason was a point of law (Jurisdiction of the umpire, equipment, clothing, etc...) then the referee may be consulted. Once the referee renders a decision, then play must continue without delay.
-
However, if both players agree on a different call - it is best to proceed with what the players concur on.
-
In any case, if a player does not resume play when asked, then:
First time in a match: Immediate point penalty - Warning with display of Yellow card.
Request the Referee to be present at the table for the duration of the match. The Referee may take appropriate action to ensure continuity of play.
Second time in the same match: Point penalty - one/two points to opponent - with display of Red / Yellow cards. The Referee may take appropriate action to ensure fair and safe environment for all participants.
