The top 24 seeded teams are drawn into 4 groups of 6 to
play against each other in the fisrt stage of the
competition

China, Yugoslavia, Italy,
Croatia, Chinese Taipei, Slovenia
GROUP B
Sweden, Belgium, Austria,
Romania, Belarus, Slovakia
GROUP C
Korea R, Germany, Poland,
Netherlands, Hong Kong, Denmark
GROUP D
France, Japan, Czech Republic,
England, Russia, Hungary
Stage 1, LEVEL 2. All other teams are drawn into
16 groups of 5 or 6 to play against each other in the first
stage of the competition.
On completion of stage 1 all teams progress to stage 2 to
play a series of matches which determines their final
position.
